Nineteen people have been convicted in Russia for their roles in a deadly attack at the Crocus City Concert Hall near Moscow, which claimed 149 lives and injured over 500. A Russian military court issued life sentences to four gunmen and 11 accomplices. Four additional defendants received sentences ranging from 19 to 22 years.
The attackers opened fire at the concert hall on March 22, 2024, and subsequently set fires that engulfed the venue, leading to the roof's collapse. Many victims died from gunshot wounds or smoke inhalation.
An affiliate of the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the assault. However, Moscow has repeatedly alleged Ukrainian involvement, a claim vehemently denied by Kyiv. The four men convicted of carrying out the shooting are reportedly citizens of Tajikistan. The trial was conducted behind closed doors.
