Two 14-year-olds in Red Deer, Alberta, face assault charges after a violent attack on a 14-year-old girl was captured on video and circulated online.

RCMP say the assault occurred around 2:21 p.m. Monday in a field near Lancaster Meadows. The video shows the victim being punched, kicked, and having her head slammed into the ground for over two minutes.

Police took both suspects into custody. They face charges of assault causing bodily harm, and one suspect faces an additional charge of assault by choking. The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities note this marks the second arrest of teens for aggravated assault since May 4. Red Deer Mayor Cindy Jefferies called the incident deeply concerning and announced plans for a community response meeting.

The school board said it is pursuing the highest disciplinary action under the Education Act, possibly expulsion. A GoFundMe has been set up for the victim's family. Both accused have been released and are due in court June 25.
