One person is dead and 21 others injured after Russia launched a massive wave of missile and drone strikes on Kyiv. Explosions rang out across the capital, with Mayor Vitali Klitschko reporting damage in every district-including residential buildings and a school. A 15-year-old boy is among the wounded; 13 people are hospitalized, three in serious condition.

The assault follows President Vladimir Putin’s vow to retaliate for Ukraine’s deadly attack on a student dormitory in Russian-occupied Starobilsk, which killed 18. Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed hitting a Russian military unit near Starobilsk, not a civilian target.

Sunday’s overnight strikes hit over 40 locations across Kyiv. Falling debris sparked fires at residential buildings, warehouses, a supermarket, and a shopping center. In the central Shevchenko district, a nine-story residential building was struck, killing one. Debris from a strike near a school’s air raid shelter trapped several people inside. Emergency crews are still extinguishing blazes and clearing rubble.

President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Saturday that intelligence from Ukraine, Europe, and the U.S. indicated Russia may be preparing a strike with the Oreshnik missile-a weapon reportedly traveling more than 10 times the speed of sound and currently impossible to intercept.
