A drone neutralized near the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in Malmö, Sweden, on Wednesday is suspected to be of Russian origin, according to Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson. A Russian military vessel was reportedly in the vicinity.
The incident occurred in the Øresund Strait, approximately 13 kilometers from the carrier, which was preparing for NATO exercises. Swedish navy vessels detected and jammed the drone, losing contact with its operator.
French military officials stated the event had no operational impact on the carrier or its crew, emphasizing strong Franco-Swedish military cooperation. This incident is part of a wider pattern of air intrusions over strategic European sites, seen as a tactic to test NATO defenses and exert psychological pressure.
Similar suspicious drone activity has been reported over sensitive French military bases.
