A powerful typhoon is hampering the search for a missing Alabama man in the foothills near Kyoto, Japan.
James "Weston" Higginbotham, a 20-year-old Auburn University engineering student, disappeared on May 29 after taking a train alone to a popular hiking area.
He was on vacation with his family. His parents say he was an experienced hiker.
Police have CCTV footage of Higginbotham leaving the Yamashina train station, wearing a "Save the Bees" T-shirt and lavender pants. That was the last confirmed sighting.
Rescue teams are searching from the air and on the ground with dogs, but the typhoon is creating dangerous conditions.
His family was scheduled to fly home to Alabama, but they say they are not leaving Japan without their son.
