Sweden has announced an €800 million investment in air and drone defense systems. The funds will support radar, anti-aircraft weapons, and electronic warfare platforms.
The move represents over half of Sweden’s increased defense budget, unveiled in January. Swedish Defense Minister Pal Johnson emphasized the importance of bolstering air defenses, echoing NATO’s call for a 400% boost in capabilities.
Sweden has signed contracts with Saab and BAE Systems Bofors for system deliveries starting in 2027. Meanwhile, U.S. officials criticized European allies for relying too heavily on American defenses.
Johnson stated Europe must take greater responsibility for its security, urging heavy investment in military readiness.
