At 17, Tobago's teen archery champion Anthurium Lewis is coaching archers older than herself and channeling her sport-derived confidence into advocacy. She aims to amplify youth and female voices in diplomacy, challenging cultural norms that silence young people. Lewis credits archery with instilling the discipline needed to overcome these barriers and push forward.
Lewis believes sport is a powerful tool for developing essential skills, stating that archery, 80% mental, builds self-esteem and discipline that transfer to all life aspects. She encourages peers to embrace their intellect and passion, asserting that young people can and should lead change now.
Through her foundation, Lewis is promoting sustainability and food security on Tobago by planting native fruit trees. She visits schools and communities, empowering youth to plant and care for trees like sapodilla and soursop. This initiative transforms neglected spaces and connects children with nature and collaborative efforts, fostering ownership and confidence.
