The United Arab Emirates announced it will cover all hosting and accommodation costs for over 20,000 passengers stranded in the country due to widespread airspace closures. The General Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the state is bearing these expenses. Hotels have been instructed to extend stays for affected travelers unable to depart.
Major airports including Dubai International (DXB) and Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi have suspended operations. Dubai Airports reported damage to a concourse at DXB and injuries to staff. Abu Dhabi airport experienced falling debris from a drone interception, resulting in one death and seven injuries.
Several airlines, including Etihad Airways and Emirates, have halted flights until Tuesday afternoon. Other regional airports in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Qatar's Hamad International Airport are also closed. Kuwait has closed its airspace, and Oman Air and Saudia have cancelled numerous flights across the region.
