Ukrainian forces have struck a key Russian oil refinery in a long-range drone attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Thursday.

Zelenskyy said the Syzran refinery in western Russia was hit, sharing footage of flames and black smoke rising from the facility. He praised Ukrainian special operations and drone units for their precision, vowing that strikes on Russian oil infrastructure will continue.

Ukraine's Special Operations Forces said on Telegram they carried out the mission with the Security Service, reporting a large fire at the scene. Samara region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed two people were killed and several injured.

This attack is part of an escalating campaign targeting Russian oil infrastructure. On Wednesday, Kyiv said it hit another refinery in Kstovo.

Over the weekend, Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on the Moscow region since the war began. Russia claimed its forces intercepted more than 550 drones.

Zelenskyy described the strikes as a justified response to Russia's continuous bombardment. He noted that earlier this week, a Russian attack on the Dnipro region involved over 520 drones and 22 missiles, targeting residential areas and energy facilities.
