Ukraine’s Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov confirmed that Kyiv is executing a deliberate strategy to isolate Crimea from Russian supplies. Fedorov stated that intensified drone operations aim to effectively turn the peninsula into an island, creating untenable conditions for Moscow’s forces.

Kyiv secured three times more medium-strike drones in early 2026 compared to the previous year. These assets target logistics routes along the Sea of Azov coast and the narrow land corridor connecting occupied southern Ukraine to Crimea. Recent strikes have damaged railway and road bridges, including infrastructure over the North Crimean Canal.

Fedorov described this campaign as a "logistics lockdown," providing direct funding to military units for rapid drone deployment. The systematic targeting of ground lines of communication has triggered the worst fuel crisis on the peninsula since 2014. The Kremlin has publicly acknowledged the severity of these supply disruptions.

Crimean Tatar leader Refat Chubarov has urged Russian citizens residing in occupied Crimea to leave immediately. Citing inevitable liberation and increased strike intensity, Chubarov warned that the window for safe departure via the Kerch Bridge is closing as Ukrainian forces systematically dismantle Moscow's logistical lifelines.
