Ukraine launched over 400 drones toward Moscow overnight on Monday, reportedly striking an oil depot and a logistics center.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces also hit two shadow fleet tankers and four cargo ships in the Black Sea.
The attacks followed a weekend of escalating exchanges. Russia targeted Kyiv with ballistic missiles on Sunday, killing one person and injuring 16 others. Ukraine previously hit warehouses belonging to the Russian online retailer Wildberries outside Moscow.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said most of the Ukrainian drones were downed away from the capital, with 85 intercepted near the city. Ten people, including a child, were wounded in surrounding towns.
The Institute for the Study of War noted that Russia appears to be depleting its stockpile of ballistic missiles, as these weapons have a higher success rate than drones. According to Ukraine's air force, Russia launched 94 long-range strike drones overnight, with 81 intercepted.
Ukraine has said its strikes on the Russian capital aim to damage Russia's offensive capabilities and pressure the Kremlin to negotiate. President Zelenskyy is also managing a domestic political crisis following a cabinet reshuffle that sparked protests over military management.
