British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called for a united effort to eradicate antisemitism, convening leaders from business, health, culture, higher education, and policing after a series of attacks on Jewish targets.

The meeting came after two Jewish men were stabbed in London and multiple arson incidents were reported. Counter-terrorism police have launched an investigation into an arson attack at a former synagogue in east London.

Starmer warned that investigators are examining whether a foreign state, possibly Iran, may be behind some of the incidents. He said the government is fast-tracking legislation to tackle state-sponsored threats.

The government has raised the national terrorism threat level to severe and allocated an additional 25 million pounds to protect Jewish communities. A new 1-million-pound package targets antisemitism in high-risk areas.

Starmer also announced new requirements for universities to report antisemitic incidents on campus. The Global Terrorism Index reports terrorism-linked deaths in Western countries surged 280 percent in 2025, driven largely by antisemitism and Islamophobia.
