The United Nations has initiated a US$308 million flash appeal to address the severe humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. This appeal comes as a conflict has forced more than 800,000 people, over a seventh of the population, to flee their homes.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the need for tangible action to match verbal solidarity. The escalating hostilities involve Israel and Hezbollah, with a significant number of casualties and widespread displacement reported. Humanitarian organizations warn of critical funding shortages, impacting their ability to provide essential supplies and aid. Pre-existing economic challenges and past crises have further strained resources, with organizations like the World Food Programme and UNHCR facing substantial shortfalls. The current conflict exacerbates an already challenging funding landscape for aid groups operating in the region.
