The UN Security Council will hold an emergency session on Tuesday, following the deaths of three UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon within 24 hours. Two personnel were killed in an explosion near Bani Hayyan village on Monday, and another died late Sunday from a projectile strike. All three victims were from the Indonesian army, bringing the total number of UNIFIL peacekeepers killed by malicious acts since 1978 to 97.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono condemned the attacks as "heinous" and called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting and a thorough investigation. He emphasized that the safety of peacekeepers is non-negotiable. Meanwhile, the Israeli army is reviewing reports to determine whether the incidents involved Hezbollah activity or Israeli fire, noting that the area is an active combat zone.

The conflict escalated when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in March, sparking heavy fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Defense Minister Israel Katz has stated that Israel aims to control the area south of the Litani River. The humanitarian impact is severe, with over 1 million people displaced and more than 1,240 fatalities reported recently. UN Special Coordinator Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaer warned that prolonged conflict risks long-term damage to stability in the region.
