A new round of direct talks between the United States and Iran has been postponed after Vice President JD Vance canceled his planned trip to Switzerland. The White House announced late Thursday that logistics for the meeting were not sufficiently predictable to proceed.

Switzerland’s foreign ministry confirmed the delay at the Burgenstock resort, though preparations continue. This development comes just one day after Washington lifted its naval blockade on Tehran following a landmark agreement aimed at ending hostilities. The 14-point deal mandates reopening the Strait of Hormuz, prohibits Iranian nuclear weapons, outlines a $300 billion reconstruction plan, and requires terminating all sanctions within 60 days.

Despite this diplomatic framework, violence persists on the ground. Israel launched intense overnight strikes in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah, killing at least 18 people. The Israel Defense Forces stated these operations were separate from the broader US-Iran agreement. However, Iran insists any ceasefire must include Lebanon, creating a critical friction point as both sides attempt to implement the new accord.

President Donald Trump stated he expects a ceasefire on all fronts, including between Israel and Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei approved the US deal despite expressing reservations, signaling that future technical negotiations will proceed cautiously.
