Claire Brosseau, a 49-year-old Toronto woman with bipolar disorder and PTSD, says she has exhausted all treatment options and wants access to Canada's medically assisted dying program, known as MAID.

Canada currently excludes patients whose sole condition is mental illness. The government has twice delayed expanding eligibility to include such cases, with a parliamentary committee now weighing whether to proceed.

Brosseau has asked an Ontario court to grant her an exemption. "If I get cancer tomorrow, I can refuse treatment and be eligible for MAID
