Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Brussels armed with significant new security commitments following the G7 summit in France. Leaders agreed to accelerate deliveries of air defense systems and long-range capabilities while considering extending military production licenses directly to Ukraine.

This potential licensing agreement marks a strategic shift, allowing Kyiv to manufacture Patriot anti-ballistic interceptors domestically. Current global stockpiles are strained, with US manufacturers producing approximately 60 missiles monthly against Russia’s capacity of 120. Domestic production aims to close this critical gap as Moscow exploits interceptor shortages.

Diplomatic momentum also shifted at the summit. US President Donald Trump stated that Russia must make a deal, signaling renewed pressure on the Kremlin. Zelenskyy emphasized that G7 leaders now recognize Vladimir Putin is deliberately prolonging the conflict and must be forced into direct negotiations with Kyiv.
