LISTEN: Graeme Souness fights back the tears as he recalls mum's death

The former Scotland footballer, 71, was playing for Liverpool at the time of his mum's passing and had been travelling to the south coast to play against Southampton. 

The team had stopped in Oxford for lunch where Souness had called his brother, Billy, to ask about his mother's health. His mum had been unwell, but Souness' brother told him that their mother was going to die that night.

Upon arriving in Southampton, the 71-year-old learned that his mother had passed and subsequently did not feature in the game.  

During the episode, the Liverpool legend also revealed the heartwarming gesture his former coach Joe Fagan did upon realising Souness' situation - with the former Reds midfielder stating of the coach: 'He wasn't just a football manager.'
