LISTEN: Graeme Souness reveals the BIGGEST regret of his life

Graeme Souness has opened up on the biggest regret of his life in the latest episode of Everything I Know About Me, a weekly Mail Sport podcast that is available every Thursday.

The 71-year-old icon, who played for and coached Liverpool during his glittering career in football, was involved in a controversy during his reign as manager in 1992.

After having major heart surgery in hospital, Souness conducted an interview with The Sun which celebrated Liverpool's FA Cup semi-final victory against Portsmouth and the success of his own operation.

The article, which was initially set to be used alongside the match report on April 14, was instead published the following day on the third anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

Several Liverpool supporters reacted angrily to Souness' interview with The Sun, given that the newspaper had falsely claimed fans were to blame for the accident.

Despite multiple calls for him to resign or be sacked, Souness remained in charge to oversee Liverpool's FA Cup final triumph over Sunderland, against doctors' advice.

After apologising, he went on to manage Liverpool until 1994, despite a tense relationship with the fanbase.

Souness opens up on Everything I Know About Me about how not resigning after the Cup final is the biggest regret of his life, a decision he will 'apologise for until the day he dies'.
