A bitcoin wallet that had been silent since November 2013 suddenly came to life Sunday, moving approximately $40 million worth of BTC to a new address. The transfer, detected by blockchain tracker Whale Alert, occurred at 19:16 UTC. The funds moved from address 1KAA8GGhVjjUjVTz1HKAjCyGNzAKQd882j to bc1qm6m6d33d02edr0k8yj9jgt027zl6dvx6thjrxy.

The reasons for the transfer remain unclear. While such moves can signal an intent to sell or transfer to an exchange, the destination wallet does not appear to be linked to any known exchange.

The awakening marks the latest in a series of dormant wallets resurfacing since bitcoin crossed the $100,000 threshold in late 2024. Last July, blockchain analytics flagged eight Satoshi-era wallets, each holding 10,000 BTC, moving their coins for the first time in 14 years. Bitcoin currently trades near $80,700.
