A new initiative called the 'Ethereum Economic Zone' (EEZ) was unveiled at the EthCC conference to tackle fragmentation in the Ethereum network. Developed by Gnosis, Zisk, and the Ethereum Foundation, EEZ seeks to integrate multiple layer 2 networks, improving interaction and user flow.
Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst highlighted in a statement that every new layer 2 becomes a silo, hindering seamless extension to the Ethereum mainnet. EEZ addresses this by aiming to unify liquidity and infrastructure across various networks.
EEZ continues to rely on ETH for transaction fees, avoiding the introduction of new tokens. The development is open to the entire Ethereum community's feedback and participation.
