Uniswap CEO Hayden Adams is alerting users to a surge in fraudulent advertisements mimicking the popular decentralized exchange. This warning comes as January saw the highest monthly cryptocurrency losses to scams and exploits in eleven months, totaling $370.3 million.

Adams highlighted that these scam ads persist despite repeated reporting, with malicious Uniswap apps appearing while legitimate applications face lengthy approval processes. Scammers are increasingly leveraging paid advertisements on major search engines, targeting keywords like "Uniswap" to place fraudulent links at the top of search results. Users who click these links may inadvertently connect their wallets and approve transactions, leading to the complete loss of their funds.

One user, identified as "Ika," shared a harrowing experience of losing a mid-six-figure sum from their crypto wallet despite exercising extreme caution. This incident underscores the effectiveness of social engineering scams, which were responsible for a significant portion of January's losses, including one victim losing approximately $284 million.

CertiK reported that out of 40 exploits and scams in January, a single victim's loss accounted for the majority of the total value stolen.
