BC Ferries will implement a temporary five percent fuel surcharge starting June 16, responding to a more than 40 percent increase in global fuel prices since March.
The surcharge applies across all routes. Chief Financial Officer Dallyn Willis stated the company used its fuel deferral account to absorb costs as long as possible but now must pass along the increase.
Officials say the surcharge will be reduced or removed if fuel prices stabilize or decline for a sustained period.
