Coquitlam RCMP seized four e-dirt bikes and issued multiple violation tickets following a complaint about teens racing on public roads.

Officers responded to a parking lot near Coast Meridian Road and David Avenue on June 22. They found four youths operating the unlicensed vehicles, which are prohibited on city streets, sidewalks, parks, and bike lanes.

“Complaints involving e-dirt bikes have increased significantly in our community,” said Sgt. Adriana O’Malley, Coquitlam RCMP media relations officer. “Parents and guardians need to know that these vehicles are not legal to operate on public roads.”

Authorities emphasized that these high-powered machines, capable of reaching 110 km/h, differ drastically from regulated e-bikes, which are limited to 32 km/h and must have pedals. Violations issued include charges for no insurance, no valid driver’s licence, and careless driving, carrying substantial fines and a mandatory seven-day vehicle impoundment.

RCMP note that such dirt bikes may only be operated on Crown land, designated off-road trails, or private property.
