The third and final round of Social Security payments for March has been released this week, as scheduled. However, new concerns are emerging about the program’s long-term future. According to a recent report from the Congressional Budget Office, Social Security’s main trust fund could run out by fiscal year 2032, one year earlier than previously projected.
If the trust fund is depleted, payroll taxes alone won't suffice to cover full benefits, leading to automatic cuts to monthly checks unless Congress takes action.
Who Gets Paid This Week?
Beneficiaries born between the 21st and the final day of their birth month will receive their payments on Wednesday, March 25.
Payment Schedule
- First to 10th of the month: Second Wednesday of the payment month
- 11th to 20th of the month: Third Wednesday of the payment month
- 21st to final day of the month: Fourth Wednesday of the payment month
Recipients who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 can expect their payment on the third day of the month, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday.
Individuals receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get their Social Security payment on the third day of the month and their SSI payment on the first day of the month.
