SINGAPORE - BioNTech will shut its vaccine manufacturing plant in Singapore by February 2027, the company confirmed, following a broad strategic review.
The German biotech posted a €1.14 billion net loss in 2025, deepening from a €665 million loss the prior year. The Tuas facility currently employs 85 staff.
"We recognize the significant contributions of our employees affected by these changes," the company said, committing to support them through the transition.
The move aligns with BioNTech's goal to focus on cost-effective value generation and optimize global operations. The firm plans to continue investing in core areas while reducing capacity elsewhere.
The closure follows the planned departure of co-founders CEO Ugur Sahin and Chief Medical Officer Oezlem Tuereci, who will step down by year-end to launch a new venture.
Established in 2021, the Tuas plant was designed to boost regional and global supply of BioNTech’s vaccines and support rapid response to pandemic threats in Southeast Asia.
