The Canadian federal government has established a new advisory committee on preventive health care. The panel will issue updated guidelines for critical screenings, including those for cervical and breast cancer.

This initiative replaces a previous task force suspended in March 2025 amid controversy over its refusal to recommend breast cancer screening for women under age 50. At the time, experts from the Canadian Cancer Society advocated lowering the mammogram eligibility age to 40.

Dense Breasts Canada has welcomed the new committee, urging swift action to revise current standards. The 14-member body is chaired by Dr. David Keegan, a family physician and medical professor at the University of Calgary. Officials state the group brings diverse expertise to address these critical public health issues.
