The legacy of Calgary businessman Norm Johnson is driving pioneering mental health research at the University of Calgary. Johnson, who battled bipolar disorder, was known for his generosity and candid discussions about his mental health struggles.

His son, Trevor Johnson, inspired by his father's openness and the suicide of a close friend, is championing fundraising for the University of Calgary's Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma (MIST).

This initiative is developing new treatments for individuals with brain injuries and mental health challenges, focusing on impacts beyond the physical. MIST is also conducting the first clinical trials using psychedelics to treat persistent effects of concussions.

Researchers aim to provide crucial support through psychotherapy, helping patients shift towards healthier thought and behavioral patterns, offering long-lasting symptom relief.
