Singapore is introducing a significant initiative to support its aging population. Starting April 1, eligible private households will receive S$1,200 (approximately US$950) in vouchers to subsidize the installation of select senior-friendly home fittings. This program, known as the Enhancement for Active Seniors (Private Housing) Programme or EASE (Private), is projected to benefit over 80,000 households.
To qualify, a household must include a Singaporean citizen aged 65 or older. Alternatively, individuals aged 60 to 64 who require assistance with at least one daily living activity, such as bathing or dressing, are also eligible. Successful applicants will receive a notification and can then engage pre-qualified contractors for installations.
The available senior-friendly fittings include grab bars, non-slip floor treatments, single-step ramps, handrails, home fire alarms, bidet sprays, and shower seats. The vouchers will cover 75 percent of the installation costs. For example, if an installation costs S$800, the government will contribute S$600, leaving the resident to pay S$200. Any remaining voucher value can be saved for future needs.
The application process will be phased. Households with seniors aged 80 and above, or those aged 60-64 with daily living assistance needs, can apply from April 1. Those with seniors aged 70 and above can apply from July 1, and households with seniors aged 65 and above can apply from October 1.
This national program, part of the broader Age Well SG initiative, aims to improve the physical living environment for seniors and foster active aging. The expansion of the EASE program to private properties was announced during the Budget 2025 speech by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, extending a scheme previously available only to Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat residents.
