Kelowna General Hospital, the second-busiest ER in British Columbia, is launching a $2.5 million upgrade campaign.
The goal is to redesign patient registration, expand triage capacity, and improve sightlines for vulnerable patients, aiming to reduce wait times and streamline care.
Dr. Jared Baylis, the ER's medical director, stated the improvements will create a more efficient and sequential journey for patients, who currently face confusion after triage.
The funds will also support new diagnostic equipment, including two mobile ultrasounds and a dedicated ER ECG and lab area.
With over 101,000 patient visits last year and regional growth increasing strain, the upgrades are seen as critical. Construction is expected to begin later this year and finish by fall 2027.
