The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of two brands of enoki mushrooms sold in multiple states after product samples tested positive for listeria monocytogenes.
The recall covers 150-gram bags of IQ Enoki Mushrooms (code "UI775") and HH Fresh Trading Enoki Mushrooms (code "4711498860002"). The HH Fresh Trading mushrooms were sold exclusively at local wholesalers in Florida and Texas.
Listeria poisoning poses serious risks to older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, diarrhea, and in pregnant women, miscarriage or life-threatening infection of newborns.
Consumers who purchased the recalled mushrooms are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone in high-risk categories experiencing flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming the product should seek medical attention.
