A new supplement, Mimio, has demonstrated the ability to replicate key benefits of fasting in overweight older adults, without the need for dietary restriction. A randomized trial found that daily intake of Mimio led to measurable metabolic improvements over eight weeks compared to a placebo.

The study involved 42 participants, aged 62 on average, with elevated HbA1c levels. The supplement, containing spermidine and other compounds, was taken before the first meal. Results showed Mimio significantly improved hunger and satiety metrics, with 91% reporting better appetite ratings versus 47% in the placebo group. Participants also experienced less abdominal discomfort.

Beyond appetite control, Mimio also produced notable cardiometabolic improvements. It reduced total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and fasting glucose levels, suggesting enhanced lipid metabolism and reduced oxidative stress. Researchers concluded Mimio is the first fasting mimetic to achieve these clinical benefits without caloric restriction, though larger, longer-term trials are needed.
