A phase 2 clinical trial shows lutikizumab, a dual IL-1α/IL-1β inhibitor, significantly improved symptoms in patients with moderate-to-severe hidradenitis suppurativa who previously failed anti-TNF therapy.
The chronic inflammatory skin disease causes painful, recurrent lesions and severely impacts quality of life. Current biologic options are limited, creating urgent need for alternatives.
In the double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 153 adults-70.6% at Hurley stage III-48.7% to 59.5% of patients on higher lutikizumab doses achieved HiSCR50 response by week 16, compared to 35% on placebo. Pain reduction (NRS30) also favored active treatment.
Serious adverse events were low and comparable across groups. Researchers call for larger trials to confirm efficacy and refine dosing, but results support advancing lutikizumab as a targeted option for refractory cases.
