A Phase III trial, COSPIRIT-JIA, has demonstrated strong efficacy for ixekizumab in treating children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, specifically enthesitis-related arthritis and juvenile psoriatic arthritis. The study evaluated the drug's performance against adalimumab in patients aged 2 to 17 years who had active disease and were candidates for biologic therapy.

At 16 weeks, 90% of biologic-naïve patients and 86% of those with prior biologic exposure achieved a JIA ACR30 response with ixekizumab, indicating at least a 30% improvement in core disease measures. The safety profile was consistent with previous studies in adult and pediatric indications, with most treatment-emergent adverse events being mild to moderate.

Investigators concluded ixekizumab is an effective and well-tolerated option for pediatric patients with these forms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis requiring biologic disease modifying therapy.
