Europe has authorized Moderna's mRNA-based combination vaccine, mCOMBRIAX, targeting both influenza and COVID-19. This marks the global debut of an authorized shot for both respiratory viruses.

The European Commission's decision follows a positive review by the European Medicines Agency in February. Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel stated the vaccine aims to simplify immunization for adults, especially high-risk individuals, and strengthen European healthcare resilience.

mCOMBRIAX combines Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine with its investigational influenza vaccine, mRNA-1010. Authorization was based on Phase III trial data involving approximately 4,000 adults. The trial demonstrated statistically significant higher immune responses against common flu strains and SARS-CoV-2 compared to comparator vaccines, with no safety concerns reported.
