NHS England London has launched a critical five-year initiative to significantly improve heart health across the capital. The program addresses the alarming reality that over half a million Londoners are living with undiagnosed high blood pressure, the leading cause of cardiovascular deaths.

Professor Kevin Fenton, Regional Director of Public Health for NHS England London, highlighted the disproportionate impact on deprived and ethnically diverse communities, where high blood pressure often goes undetected, silently increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. This condition is a key factor in the life expectancy gap between the city's wealthiest and poorest residents.

Figures indicate that treating high blood pressure to recommended targets could prevent approximately 900 heart attacks, 1,300 strokes, and nearly 700 deaths in London over three years.

Dr. Tom Coffey, the Mayor of London's health advisor, urged Londoners to get their blood pressure checked, emphasizing that the condition often has no symptoms but can lead to severe health issues and exacerbate inequalities.
