The Quebec government and the province's medical specialists have reached a tentative labor agreement following two years of intense negotiations.
New Premier Christine Fréchette and the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ) announced the deal. Fréchette stated the agreement respects taxpayers and will improve access to care for the population. The FMSQ will now review the agreement internally before details are made public.
The deal comes four months after family physicians accepted a separate agreement, which included a 14.5 percent pay increase. The framework agreement for specialists had been expired since March 2023. Negotiations resumed this month after pressure tactics intensified.
