Ronald McDonald House Charity's ambitious $100 million expansion project, the Willow House, is in jeopardy. The 75-suite residence near BC Children’s Hospital, designed to house families of sick children, may not be built without crucial provincial government funding.

The project has secured approximately $20 million from the federal government and millions more from private donors. However, the B.C. government has yet to commit its share, estimated to be just under $40 million. Richard Pass, CEO of Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon, stated that private donors believe government participation is essential.
The non-profit warns that failure to secure provincial funds could force them to put the expansion on hold, leaving hundreds of families annually without support. They currently turn away up to 700 families each year, who are then forced into costly hotel accommodations.

Health Minister Josie Osborne acknowledged the challenging financial climate and stated that funding decisions are under review. She expressed gratitude for the charity's work and indicated a willingness to continue discussions. Pass has invited provincial leaders to visit and witness the need firsthand, emphasizing that the decision should not solely rest on the province's bottom line.
