Singapore is implementing new measures to combat a potential blood supply crisis projected within seven years. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung announced initiatives, including a new Healthpoint reward scheme, to encourage more donors.

Demand for blood is expected to outpace supply due to an aging population and rising cancer rates. "The demand curve is pointing up, while the supply curve is pointing down," stated Mr. Ong.

Starting in late 2026, donors will receive Healthpoints via the Healthy 365 app for successful donations. These points can be used for MediShield Life premium discounts, e-vouchers, or community donations.

Authorities are also enhancing convenience by integrating the DonateBlood and HealthHub apps. An electronic donor eligibility tool will launch in May to help donors plan around travel schedules.

Efforts are also underway to engage younger donors, whose participation has significantly declined. Partnerships with popular brands and educational institutions are planned to revitalize youth engagement in blood donation.
