Shane Sturby-Highfield's journey through addiction reached a critical point in 2021. After struggling with substance abuse since his teens, he found himself unemployed and isolated. Seeking help, he entered the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, a facility founded by sportscaster Scott Oake and his late wife Anne, who lost their son Bruce to addiction.

The 50-bed centre, which opened in 2021, offers a four-month program for men. Executive director Greg Kyllo notes that over 600 men have graduated, experiencing significant transformation. Scott Oake emphasized the centre's culture of kindness, love, and hope.

Sturby-Highfield credits the centre with helping him achieve sobriety and reclaim his life, underscoring the importance of reaching out for help. He stated, "I didn’t feel alone."
