Toronto General Hospital, part of the University Health Network (UHN), has been recognized as one of the world's leading medical facilities, securing the second position in Newsweek magazine's World's Best Hospitals 2026 ranking. This marks the highest placement ever achieved by a Canadian hospital.
Dr. Kevin Smith, president and CEO of UHN, stated that this global recognition "affirms UHN’s legacy of discovery and our pursuit of excellence where care, research, and education move together in service of patients." He emphasized that the ranking should inspire continued support for health research to advance Canadian healthcare and science.
Other UHN facilities, including Toronto Western Hospital and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, were also listed among the World's Top 250. Princess Margaret Cancer Centre additionally made Newsweek's top 10 for specialized hospitals. Ontario Premier Doug Ford highlighted this achievement as a testament to the province's "world-class health care system."
