AC Milan has fired manager Massimiliano Allegri after a fifth-place finish in Serie A, ending the club's hopes of Champions League qualification for the second straight season.

The decision, announced Monday, came just hours after a 2-1 home loss to Cagliari, which was met with boos from the San Siro crowd. The club described the collapse as an "unequivocal failure," citing a sharp decline in form after a strong title challenge for much of the campaign.

Allegri is out alongside senior executives Giorgio Furlani, Igli Tare, and Geoffrey Moncada. The overhaul is driven by U.S.-based owners RedBird Capital Partners, who previously dismissed legendary defender Paolo Maldini in a similar restructuring move in 2023.

The club says it will announce new appointments for next season "in due course."
