The Alabama High School Athletic Association has banned Mary G. Montgomery head coach Zach Golson for the entire 2026-2027 season following a recruiting violation.
The controversy stems from a signing day ceremony for eighth-grade students not zoned for the school. Opposing school administrators reported the event, leading to an investigation.
Mary G. Montgomery officials self-reported the violation after evidence surfaced. Along with Golson's suspension, the school faces probation and a postseason ban for the 2026 season. Games against MGM will not count in region standings for opponents.
Students who participated in the ceremony and reside outside the district must now play for their zoned school.
Golson had led MGM to a 37-10 record over four seasons at the 7A level.
