Mikaela Shiffrin, the most decorated Alpine skier in World Cup history, is contemplating a significant shift in her career, looking beyond the upcoming Milano Cortina Olympics.
"I feel that there's some kind of transition in my career coming closer, but I don't know what that looks like and I don't know how to say it," Shiffrin told Reuters.
Shiffrin holds numerous records, including 108 World Cup wins and multiple Olympic and World Championship medals. Despite her continued success and passion for the sport, she acknowledges uncertainty about her long-term future.
"Every day I go out for training and I love it. I love skiing and I love training and I love practicing," she stated. "So I don't know how it looks for the next four years."
The skier also shared emotional reflections on competing without her late father, noting a personal acceptance of his absence as she continues to achieve.
"Maybe it was the first time where I thought that I can just talk to him and he doesn't have to respond. And maybe that was a key thing to accept the reality that I can win a medal and he's not here to see it."
