Legendary Kansas basketball coach Bill Self said Sunday he is uncertain about his future after the Jayhawks' buzzer-beater loss to St. John’s in the NCAA Tournament.
Self, 63, has led Kansas for 23 seasons, winning two national championships and amassing a 648-166 record. But recent health issues have cast doubt on his ability to continue.
He missed a game in January due to a precautionary hospital visit and has had four heart stents placed since 2023. "I’m feeling as good as I’ve felt in a long time," Self said, "but I’m not making any statements."
The season ended when St. John’s Dylan Darling hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer. Self, elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017, emphasized his career won’t be defined by one loss.
"I’ll get back home and it will all be discussed," he said, citing family consultation and health evaluation.
