Serie A side Cremonese has officially appointed Marco Giampaolo as head coach, ending Davide Nicola's tenure this Wednesday. The decision follows a brutal 15-match winless streak that has plunged the promoted side into the relegation zone.
Giampaolo returns to Italy's top flight after stabilizing Lecce last season and previously leading AC Milan. Cremonese began the campaign promisingly, sitting in the top half after nine games. However, eleven losses in their last fifteen matches leave them third from the bottom, trailing Lecce by three points.
Nicola was dismissed Monday following a decisive 4-1 defeat against Fiorentina. The team faces an immediate challenge away at Parma this Saturday.
