INDIAN WELLS, California - Daniil Medvedev defeated world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6(3) in the Indian Wells semi-finals, ending Alcaraz’s 16-match winning start to 2024.
The win halted Alcaraz’s bid for a third Indian Wells title and marked Medvedev’s first victory over the Spaniard in six meetings.
Medvedev, 30, acknowledged Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner operate on a higher competitive plane: “Jannik and Carlos are far better than all of us. Only one match we can beat them.”
He will face Sinner in Sunday’s final-the first all-Next Gen ATP Finals rematch since 2023.
Medvedev added: “I’m not Next Gen anymore. I need to do my best-that’s it.”
