Marc Marquez underwent successful double surgery on Sunday in Madrid after a violent crash during Saturday's French Grand Prix sprint, Ducati confirmed.

The 33-year-old MotoGP champion suffered a highside at Le Mans, fracturing the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. The crash also prompted him to undergo a pre-planned shoulder procedure earlier than expected.

Ducati's medical team successfully stabilized the foot fracture while simultaneously addressing a previous shoulder injury. Surgeons removed two screws and a bone fragment from a 2019 Latarjet surgery that had shifted, compressing the radial nerve.

Marquez will remain hospitalized overnight. He is expected to miss next weekend's Catalan Grand Prix, with a potential return at Ducati's home race, the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, May 29-31.

The Spaniard has yet to secure a podium finish this season and now sits seventh in the standings, 71 points behind Aprilia's championship leader Marco Bezzecchi.
