The U.S. Department of Education is marking one year since President Donald Trump signed the “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order, touting policy shifts at major athletic institutions.

Since February 2025, the NCAA and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee have revised policies to limit women’s sports participation to athletes assigned female at birth. Harvard, Trinity University, and others have followed suit.

The Department reached resolution agreements with the University of Pennsylvania and Wagner College over Title IX violations involving transgender athletes on women’s teams. It now demands San Jose State University comply by month’s end or face federal funding cuts and DOJ referral.

The Justice Department is suing California and Maine for allowing biological males in girls’ high school sports. Investigations are also open into school districts in Colorado, New York, California, and the University of Nevada, Reno.
