A former mixed martial artist has died after rescuing four girls from a strong current at one of the world's deepest lakes.
Medet Zheenaliev, 30, saw the girls struggling in Lake Issyk-Kul in his home country of Kyrgyzstan. One girl was pulled under the current. Zheenaliev and a friend jumped in to save them, but the fighter never resurfaced.
Divers found his body the next day. The lake is the ninth-deepest in the world, reaching 2,192 feet.
Zheenaliev had four professional fights, with two wins and two losses.
